State Report Notes Attendance Gains

A state report on attendance highlights the Long Beach Unified School District’s efforts to reduce absenteeism.

“In School, On Track,” issued by the California Attorney General, features 菠菜网lol正规平台 as an example of school districts that have demonstrated continuous improvement in their efforts to improve school attendance over the past several years.

The report quotes Erin Simon, 菠菜网lol正规平台’s director of Student Support Services.

"To reduce chronic absence, districts must analyze their data, identify the underlying causes, and allocate resources to address those causes," Simon stated.  As part of this effort, 菠菜网lol正规平台 launched the “All In” campaign, a long-term, city-wide approach to strongly encourage students to attend school every second of every period, everyday.

“All In” is centered on the understanding that increasing student attendance is crucial to improving academic achievement.  The campaign includes recognition and incentive programs at schools, parent and student workshops, assemblies, posters and decals, and collaborative work with the Long Beach City Prosecutor, police and clergy and faith-based organizations.

Piloted at Addams, Franklin, Jefferson and Washington schools, the effort has shown promising results, most notably a 21 percent decrease in the chronic absentee rate at Franklin.

The “All In” partnership recently gained additional support with a $259,000 continuation grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
